(Karachi) Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched the 'Tele Health Portal' in Islamabad on Wednesday. The purpose of establishing the platform is to ensure an effective contact between doctors and coronavirus patients and keeping them safe from the disease, he stated.

Addressing the ceremony, the PM said the doctors can voluntarily register themselves with this platform and recommend diagnosis as well as treatment to the patients free of cost.

He added citizens can ask questions about Covid-19 and remain in contact with the doctors by telephone. Imran appreciated the efforts of his team for bringing a platform to facilitate the public.

He said, "When coronavirus will end then there will be need to use the Tele Health Portal."

He urged female doctors and health workers to volunteer for the portal in large numbers. "Coronavirus has badly affected the global economy and affected millions of citizens," the prime minister maintained.

"Even the economies of developed coubntries are suffering," he remarked.

Speaking on the occasion, Special Assistant to PM on Health Dr Zafar Mirza said that some 70 to 80 percent of Pakistan's doctors are females but a lot of them did not practise the profession. "They should participate in this too. They can do it from their homes," he said.

Mirza added that the Tele Health Portal will stay even after the pandemic is over and termed the portal a "wonderful aspect" of the country's health system in the future.
