ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice Javed Iqbal Thursday visited the Lahore Bureau to review overall performance of the Bureau particularly the progress in under investigation cases including 56 companies case, Paragon City Scandal case and corruption in Punjab Police Funds case.
Director General NAB Lahore briefed the Chairman about progress in the under-trial case. Talking on the occasion, the Chairman NAB said he was striving hard to make the country corruption free.
Topmost priority of NAB was to eradicate the menace of corruption from the society, he said.
The Chairman directed the concerned to take steps to conclude the mega corruption cases on priority basis and in a transparent way.
He said NAB was not in favor of conducting media trial of any accused persons.
NAB was also victim of media trial. He urged the media to broadcast, publish NAB related news items after confirming from the spokesperson of NAB and avoid speculations.
NAB acts only after getting concrete evidence, he added. While reviewing facilities being provided to under trial prisoners in NAB lockup, he said the lockup inmates are being provided in light of Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The accused are being provided facilities beyond jail manual.
Their self respect is being taken care of, he told. He said there is no concept of any leniency in investigations of NAB, as it only conducts investigations only on concrete evidence and as per law. NAB believes only on concluding the corruption cases as per law and in light of the relevant laws.
