Partly Facetious: for whom the grapes are sour?

"It was truly fun....a night of festivities - light and kites..."

"It was truly fun....a night of festivities - light and kites..."
"I hear the Maulanas were very upset with it....insisted that it was a Hindu festival and must not be celebrated."
"So what does that mean? Spring doesn't come to Muslim countries!"
"Well, I suppose I agree with you, one needs to be happy and have fun sometimes and we Lahoris really love our kite flying festival...."
"Absolutely....I simply don't understand why the Maulanas not only don't want to have fun themselves but also not let others have fun...."
"It's in their terms of reference. You know like it is in Bush's terms of reference to be suspicious of all Muslims and in his Poodle's (Blair) terms of reference to wag his tail whenever Bush wants something done; similarly it is in our Maulanas' interest not to let people be happy and enjoy life. I mean it won't make us bad Muslims if we also enjoy a bit of our lives."
"Speaking of enjoyment many died during Basant."
"But they died happy."
"Speaking of happy did you see the photograph in the newspaper of Qazi Sahib and the Swedish envoy who is female....I was truly impressed...I think Qazi Sahib is coming of age politically."
"I missed that. Maybe Qazi Sahib didn't know her gender till she arrived."
"Don't be facetious....Qazi Sahib is becoming a national politician now."
"Karachi had a slight problem on Basant day too, but in their case the protest was against the celebration of Valentine's Day, which fell on the same day as Basant."
"Yes, I heard - angry students protested against celebration of Valentine Day for the same reason the Maulanas protested against the celebration of Basant - that these are not Islamic functions. But you know one must be allowed to celebrate a few functions for the fun of it - besides it's not as if Islam forbids kite flying or giving flowers or chocolates to some one you care for."
"Maybe, the protestors didn't have anyone to send a Valentine greeting to, and so grapes were sour."
"Maybe. But are you sure that it was a protest against the celebration of Valentine's Day? Couldn't it be a protest against Thursday's massive traffic jam when Musharraf was in the city."
"Good thing Musharraf is not likely to look for votes in Karachi ever. I mean after that jam I don't think anyone from that city will vote PML (Lota)."
"Ah yes, thank the Lord for that! Talking of Musharraf is it my imagination or is he wearing his uniform more often these days."
"Well, I guess you are right - he seems to be wearing it more often - maybe as he knows he won't be able to wear it after December this year!"
"Ah yes."
