PC sales in China rose 10.4 percent in 2003, accounting for nearly half of all computers sold in the Asia Pacific region, according to data released on Thursday by research firm Gartner.
The nation's PC sales totalled 13.3 million units last year, or 44.7 percent of the region-wide figure, Gartner said. China passed Japan last year to become the world's No 2 PC market.
"The main momentum came from mobile PCs," Annie Chung, principal analyst at Gartner Hong Kong, said in a statement.
Within China, Legend Group Ltd, in the process of changing its name to Lenovo, continued to lead the field with 2.8 million units sold, or 21.3 percent market share.
