PTCL informed that the regulator responded in affirmative vide its letter dated 1st October 2018 that PTCL license will be renewed in accordance with the government policy prevalent at the time of renewal.
Zong CMPak has served the PTA with a notice claiming Rs. 600 billion for damages suffered by the telecom company due to disturbed radio frequency band that it obtained from PTA.
It informed that since the implementation of PTA DIRBS, the import of mobile devices via legal channels has increased from 17.2 Million in 2018 to 28.02 Million in 2019 (63% increase). In 2020, 32.83 million devices have so far been imported.
It may be further added that, previously, call centers and companies had to route their applications through relevant Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
However, TikTok could not satisfy for taking concrete steps for blocking and removal of unlawful content, said the PTA authority in a news release here on Monday.
“TikTok is being unlocked after assurance from management that they will block all accounts repeatedly involved in spreading obscenity and immorality,” said PTA.
“After TikTok was blocked in Pakistan, we continued to engage with the PTA to demonstrate our commitment to comply with local laws and further enhance our content moderation capacity,” reads the statement.
TikTok highlighted the efforts that were taken and also shared a future strategy on how to improve content moderation keeping in mind Pakistan's laws, PTA said.
The regulator was of the view that due to lack of clarity on the deduction of GST in addition to WHT, mobile subscribers are assuming that CMOs are charging well above applicable taxes, which is not correct.
PTA intends to seek services of a Consultant/Consulting Firm (hereinafter referred to as "Consultant”), for Cellular License Renewal and Additional Spectrum Auction in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
PTA said that it has approached YouTube to immediately ensure blocking of objectionable content and to prevent the usage of its platform for disseminating such content.
"This phenomenon was not specific to Pakistan only but users in other countries including the United States also experienced similar issues,” said PTA.
The regulator informed that it had issued necessary notices to the aforementioned social media companies under law to moderate the socialization and content within legal and moral limits, in accordance with the laws of the country.
