imageISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Friday directed provision of best cabin crew and catering services for the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to achieve high service standards.

He was chairing a meeting on the affairs of Pakistan International Airlines that was attended by Minister for Finance Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Secretary Aviation Irfan Elahi, and senior officials.

The prime minister was briefed on the affairs of the airlines, particularly the steps related to human resource activity.

The meeting was briefed that the domestic market share of PIA increased from 47 to 58 percent during March this year as compared to the corresponding period last year while international market share of the Airline increased from 23 to 27 percent as compared to last year.

The prime minister was briefed that average daily departures increased from 94 flights in March 2015 to 121 flights in March 2016.

For Umrah, 71 extra sections were mounted during March 2016 against 27 of same period last year, while 508,453 passengers were uplifted during the month of March 2016 against 414,392 passengers during the same period last year registering a growth of 23 percent.

The meeting was informed that New Lean Organization Structure had been approved by the PIA Board of Directors.

The Central Reservation Control (CRC) has been shifted from Karachi to Islamabad with fully automated systems to curb inventory abuse, the meeting was informed.
