imf WASHINGTON: The International Monetary Fund said on Thursday it will send a mission to Hungary on Tuesday to begin talks with the authorities on a standby loan program after lawmakers approved changes to a disputed central bank law.

IMF spokesman Gerry Rice said Hungary would treat the joint IMF-European Union program as "precautionary" and did not intend to draw any of the funds.

"A mission will be on the ground starting on Tuesday," Rice told a news briefing. "I would not want to preempt that work by going much further (but) clearly the dialogue relationship is active."
