KARACHI: The Chairman Sindh Revenue Board (SRB), Shakaib Qureshi, Friday called on Syed Qaim Ali Shah Chief Minister of Sindh and briefed him on the working of the SRB during the last financial year and on the strategy being chalked out by the SRB for the current financial year.
Qureshi recalled that the SRB was established in pursuance of the vision of the Chief Minister Sindh in January 2011 to administer sales tax on services from 1-7-2011.
He said this vision was put into practice due to a unanimous decision taken in the 7th NFC Award.
The Chief Minister congratulated the Sindh Revenue Board on achieving its targets.
He noted with satisfaction that at the closure of the financial year on 30th June, 2012, the Sindh Revenue Board exceeded the assigned target of Rs. 25 billion, in its first year of operation.
Qaim Ali Shah further noted that other provinces were now following Sindh's example in this sector which was a tribute to Sindh government's governance in this sector.
The SRB Chief assured the Chief Minister Sindh that although a very difficult target requiring a revenue growth rate of 28 percent growth for the current financial year has been set for the Sindh Revenue Board by the Sindh Government, however, this could be achievable if the required resources and capacity building of the Sindh Revenue Board was undertaken.
The Chief Minister was apprised of the issues involved in creating a small but well trained human resource which is needed to drive such a successful process.
The Chief Minister appreciated the issues involved and promised all legislative and financial help to assist this process.
He further directed the Chairman SRB to strengthen the organization with a view to consolidating the initial success of the SRB together with expanding and growing the SRB tax base in Sindh.
