Textile sector wants govt to allow 'whole supply of chain' operations

The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association, Pakistan Ready Made Garments Association and All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association said on Tuesday that completion of export orders would not be possible unless the government allows the whole supply chain of the textile sector to start their operations.

The associations also called for suspension of all restrictions and documentation requirements including condition of having computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) of buyer for the sale of above Rs 50,000 till June 30.

Chairman APTMA Punjab Adil Bashir while talking to Business Recorder said that in majority of the cases export orders can't be completed without opening the complete supply chain. "So, if the government allows only those industrial units with confirmed export orders they would still not be able to complete orders or operate as they would not be getting yarn or other essentials and that was why it is important to allow the complete supply chain to resume business," Adil said.

He demanded that the government should reduce the rate of sales tax along with the suspension of the condition of having computerized CNIC of the buyer for the sale of above Rs 50,000 till June 30.

PRGMEA Chief Coordinator Ijaz Khokhar also put forth the same demand that the government should suspend CNIC of the buyer for the sale of above Rs 50,000 till June 30. Khokhar also said that the government should allow all the textile processing mills to start their operations. He said without raw material and accessories suppliers, even the direct exporter with confirmed export orders cannot fulfill their commitment.

The All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association secretary also came up with the same demand besides suggesting the government to suspend all kind of restrictions and documentation requirements till June 30. He also said that the government had only given the permission to the processing mills having Letter of Credit (LC) that they can start functioning. He demanded that the government should allow all the processing mills to start their operation who are ready to follow the Standing Operating Procedures (SOP's).
