Indian troops using artillery fire, heavy-calibre mortars on civilians along LoC: FO

Summoning Indian Deputy High Commissioner Gaurav Ahluwalia to Foreign Office on Monday, Pakistan lodged protest over India’s recent unprovoked ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC).

According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Mohammad Faisal lodged a protest with the Indian high commission condemned India's ceasefire violations. The statement further said that the Indian troops have continuously been targeting civilian populated areas with artillery fire, heavy-caliber mortars and automatic weapons along the LoC and Working boundary, local media reported.

“The ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation,” the statement further reads. Pakistan has also urged India to respect the 2003 Ceasefire arrangement in letter and in spirit.

On Sunday, two elderly civilians were killed due to India's unprovoked firing in the Tatta Pani sector of Kashmir. A minor boy was also injured due to the firing. The Pakistan Army in retaliatory fire killed two Indian soldiers and injured several others.

The ceasefire violations by India comes at a time when tensions are already at peak between the two neighbours over Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK). India had revoked Article 370 from its constitution which granted special status to IoK.
