Senate to vote on no-confidence motion against chairman today

The Senate will vote on Thursday to decide about the future of its Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, who is facing a no-confidence motion moved by the joint opposition.

Similarly, it will also vote on a no-confidence motion submitted by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government against Senate Deputy Chairperson Salim Mandviwala, who is backed by the opposition. The opposition has nominated a candidate of their own National Party chief Hasil Bizenjo for Sanjrani's replacement, whereas, the government has not yet revealed their candidate.

The Senate session has been summoned by President Arif Alvi, who has appointed Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan's (MQM-P) Muhammad Ali Saif to act as presiding officer of the session. The voting on the no-confidence motion will be carried out through secret ballot where 103 Senators will cast their votes today.

On July 9, the opposition had submitted a no-confidence motion against the Senate chairman. The removal of Sanjrani was decided at an All Parties Conference on June 26.
