MULTAN: Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) task force launched a crackdown against power pilferers and imposed Rs 47.3 million fine on 1248 power pilferers during the ongoing month of December.

According to MEPCO spokesperson, in line with special directions of CEO MEPCO Engineer Muhammad Akram Chaudhry, the task force along with police and district administration launched the crackdown against power pilferers from December 01 to 15.

The teams conducted raids at various locations across the region and checked 16,373 connections of different categories. The MEPCO teams found 1,248 connections involved in power pilferage and imposed fine Rs 47.3 million on the power pilferers for stealing 2.8 million electricity units.

The MEPCO teams filed applications with concerned police stations against 1,063 power pilferers for registration of FIRs, out of which FIRs have been registered against 563 power pilferers.
