Punjab government has granted Rs 17 million compensation to three martyred cops of the Punjab Highway Police, who were killed in a "terrorist attack". In this connection, a special ceremony was held at Police Lines on Monday, in which Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah handed over compensation cheques to the heirs of martyred Inspector Ishaq Ali, ASI Imran Liaqat and Rafaqat Ali.
The event was attended by Additional IG Highways Patrolling, Amjad Jawed Saleemi, members of Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Faqir Hussain Dogar, Zafar Iqbal Nagra, Acting RPO/CPO Afzal Ahmd Kausar, police officers and others. In his address, the Law Minister paid rich tributes to the martyred cops and acknowledged their great sacrifice.
He expressed the hope that the compensation amount would help ease the economic problems of the victims' families. The Minister said that the police and other law-enforcing agencies were rendering great services to protect the life and property of the citizens. He said that it was the paramount duty of the government to patronise the LEAs who were waging war against terrorists and criminals to help restore peace in the country.
The Minister said that after elimination of 'patwari culture', the Punjab government was making efforts towards eliminating the 'thana culture' in the province. Speaking on the occasion, Saleemi said that the police personnel were serving the nation without caring for their lives. He paid rich tributes to the martyred cops and vowed to bring the terrorists involved in the attack to justice. CPO, Afzal Ahmad Kausar, also spoke on the occasion and paid tributes to the martyred police officials.
