The country would make rapid and fast progress in all fields with the elimination of corruption as it was adversely affecting social fabric. These views were expressed by Director General (DG) Awareness & Prevention of Corruption, National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Aliya Rashid on Friday. She was delivering a lecture on "Say NO to Corruption-Role of Youth on Prevention of Corruption" to the students of Air University here.
In her address, Aliya Rashid highlighted the main causes of the scourge of corruption and said "What we all need to learn is that all people are stakeholders in facing the challenge of corruption and that corruption causes colossal damage to the country's economy and harms national institutions." She said it was the main hurdle in the socio, economic, progress and above all, corruption erodes the concept of the role of law and due process of justice in the country.
Aliya Rashid believed that youth, especially those studying in universities, would play a leading role in curbing corruption from the society. The participants were also apprised of various awareness activities carried out by NAB for the awareness of general public and specially the youth.
The Director General of NAB informed the audience about the Comic Story Book "Gogi Says NO to Corruption" and shared contents of the story which was appreciated with applause by the students. She apprised the participants about various forms of corruption and the concerted efforts being taken by the NAB to prevent corruption and corrupt practices followed by various legislations.
She also informed about NAB's prevention and awareness techniques to raise slogan of "Say NO to Corruption". It was informed that Pakistan was proud leading country to adopt "Say NO to Corruption Logo" on utility bills, driving licenses, ATM machines, routine government correspondences, public sector print advertisements and also the first country to introduce postal stamp bearing 'Say No to Corruption Logo'.
Aliya Rashid urged women/housewives to raise their voice against corruption and make their husband proud of what they are and to appreciate their efforts for the family. Women must start the crusade against corruption right from their home as accountability begins at home, she added. She stressed on the role of future mothers/wives in their families and called on women to actively participate in preventing members of their families from getting involved in corruption. As central figure in families, women/wives can play pivotal role in preventing their husbands from corruption and corrupt practices.
Aliya Rashid also said it had become a phenomenon that wives demanded such status of life which was beyond the financial status of their husbands and regularly complaints about not having luxury items which other were enjoying. "This innocent and un-intentional act by wives is often due to lack of awareness about the negative impact of such demands which their husbands cannot fulfil and can contribute greatly to transform them from honest to dishonest character." She further said that women role could be very vital in eradication of corruption within society and it was the duty of wives, daughters and sisters to make their husbands, brothers and fathers proud of what they were and to appreciate their efforts for the family.
At the end, Vice Chancellor Air University, AVM Faaiz Amir (R) appreciated NAB's efforts in creating awareness among students and their role in the efforts in uprooting this evil from the motherland. He assured that Air University fully supports this noble cause and said that all the participants of the event will now act as an ambassador of this message of "Say NO to Corruption" and warriors of anti-corruption. The lecture was attended by large number of students, faculty members and the Vice Chancellor Air University AVM Faaiz Amir (R) himself.
