As many as 167 degrees were conferred on the graduates of different disciplines in the 3rd Convocation of Islamia College, Peshawar (ICP) held on Sunday for the academic session 2014.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan, who is also the chancellor of the ICP, could not come to preside over and confer degrees due to certain immediate official engagement and as per provisions of KP Universities Act 2014, the Vice Chancellor ICP, Ajmal Khan gave away degrees.
According to Ataullah Khan, Controller of Examinations, ICP, a total 6 doctorate of Philosophy (PhD), 12 Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and 147 MSC, MA, and BS degrees in both social sciences, numerical and physical sciences were conferred on the graduates of ICP. Besides, gold medals were also awarded to the position holders in their respective disciplines.
Giving convocation address, Ajmal Khan, VC ICP emphasised upon the graduates to devote their all energies and capabilities for acquiring further higher education adding that if they wanted to join practical field, even then they had to do hard work with fullest devotion to prove what they learnt at the Islamia College.
The Vice Chancellor said that Islamia College had been serving the cause of education for over a century and for this the credit went to those great men of past who dedicated their time, money and capabilities for building this great institution. He said that this institution was the custodian of supreme human and academic values and called upon the graduates to follow in the footsteps of their founders and those who taught and trained the students here in period of a
Century, he specifically praised the dedication and professional competence of the faculty, who left no stone unturned in equipping the students with best available knowledge.
The Islamia College, he said, had been standing like a beacon of light, wisdom and knowledge and exporting rays of knowledge and wisdom even across the country's borders. He added that the graduates of ICP must maintain this excellence of this institution, whether they were students or had joined the professional field so as to tell the world that they were Islamians.
The 3rd Convocation, which was held in historic Roos Keppel Hall of the ICP, was well attended. Registrar Dr Sarir Badshah, Controller of Exam Professor Ataullah Khan, Deans Dr Naushad Khan, Dr Inayat Ali Shah, Dr Muhammad Subhan, vice chancellors from other universities, President and Office holders of Senior Alumni Association including
General Retired Ali Muhammad Jan Orakzai, former teachers, former principals and parents were present on this auspicious occasion. Awwal Said, Lecturer, Department of English acted as stage secretary.
