PSL fixing probe: Nasir Jamshed banned for 10 years

Opening batsman Nasir Jamshed has been banned for 10 years by the Anti Corruption Tribunal for his involvement in Pakistan Super League (PCB) spot-fixing on Friday.

The board’s anti-corruption tribunal declared Jamshed guilty of violating its anti-corruption code of conduct under Articles 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.3, 2.1.4 and 2.4.4 during the 2017 edition of Pakistan Super League.

Legal Advisor of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Tafazul Rizvi talking to media said, “today the final trail of PSL spot-fixing saga came to an end, however, there are a few cases which we won’t feel happy despite winning.”

“It was very disappointing to see another player who ruined or ended his career for fixing. He should have reported about the suspicious activities but he didn’t,” he added.

Rizvi further said according to today’s judgment, PCB’s charges against Nasir Jamshed were proven and the cricketer was handed 10-year ban.

“We haven’t received the full judgement yet, however, if he returns after serving the ban and rehabilitation process, he will not be allowed to have any concern with cricket or any cricket administration,” he added.

“Furthermore, his name will also be included in the list of persons to be avoided.”

The advisor said PCB from the day one continues to say that he is the linchpin; he is the access point of whole fixing saga. He is the one who recruited all the players.

The cricketer was already serving a one-year ban for his non-cooperation with the PCB's spot-fixing investigation during the 2017 edition of the Pakistan Super League.

The verdict against the 28-year old had been reserved on August 16.

Along with the 10-year ban, Jamshed has also been banned from any role in cricket management for life.

Jamshed had played 48 one-day internationals for Pakistan but fell out of favour after a disappointing 2015 World Cup campaign and did not feature in the first two years of the PSL.
