The prices of almost all essential kitchen items witnessed a rising trend during past week as compared to the prices of the preceding week, according to survey conducted by Business Recorder on Saturday. The survey indicated that the prices of a number of vegetables, including peas and Shimla mirch, surpassed even the price of chicken meat.
Peas and shimla mirch were being sold at Rs 240 and Rs 200, per kg, respectively, in retail market whereas chicken meat was available for Rs 180 per kg. However, in wholesale market, peas and Shimla mirch were being sold at Rs 1,000 per 5kg and Shimla Mirch at Rs 800 per 5kg whereas chicken was available for Rs 3,600 per 40 kg.
Prices of pulses' entire range also registered an upward trend as Mash was being sold at Rs 200 per kg, Masoor at Rs 160 per kg, gram pulse at Rs 120 per kg and Moong at Rs 155 per kg. Cucumber in wholesales market was being sold at Rs 300 per kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 80 per kg; lemon Rs 100 per kg in wholesales market and it retail it was available for Rs 120 per kg. In wholesales market, ginger was being sold at Rs 800 per 5kg and in retail its prices ranged between Rs 200 and Rs 220 per kg, garlic in wholesale market was being sold at Rs 1,000 per kg and in retail it was being sod at Rs 240 per kg.
Moreover, a five kg pack of tomatoes which during last week was being sold at Rs 200 in wholesale market while in retail it was being sold at Rs 70 per kg as against its last week's price of Rs 50 per kg. The wholesale market price of good quality potatoes was Rs 150 per 5 kg while that of normal quality at Rs 120 per 5kg. However, the commodity's price in retail ranged between Rs 35 and Rs 30 per kg.
Onions were being sold at Rs 300 per 5kg in wholesale market while in retail it was being sold at Rs 70 per kg. Spinach was available at Rs 35 per kg, tinda at Rs 60 per kg, okra at Rs 55 per kg and kareela at Rs 80 per kg, thereby showing an increase of Rs 25 per kg in its prices. Tori was being sold at Rs 70 per kg, arvi at Rs 60 per kg, pumpkin at Rs 80 per kg.
Moreover, prices of green chilli witnessed an increase of Rs 60 per kg from Rs 60 per kg to Rs 120 per kg, carrot was being sold at Rs 70 per kg, brinjal at Rs 50 per kg, while cabbage and cauliflower were being sold at Rs 60 per kg.

However, fruit prices witnessed a decline as guava was being sold at Rs 50 per kg as against its last week's price of Rs 60; prices of apple ranged between Rs 80 and Rs 150 per kg as against their last week's prices of Rs 100-180 per kg, prices of grapes ranged between Rs 100 and Rs 250 per kg as against last week's Rs 150-300 per kg. Prices of different qualities of local bananas ranged between Rs 60 and Rs 80 per dozen, while Indian banana was being sold between Rs 120 and 150 per dozen while pomegranate was being sold at Rs 140 per kg.
