Pakistan has been ranked fourth in the top five of the least favourable non-European countries for British citizens, according to a survey conducted by think-tank Chatnam House on public attitudes towards other countries, The Independent newspaper said.
According to the report, the research; conducted in August 2014 and titled "Internationalism or Isolation," ranked North Korea as the top least favourable non-European nation, followed by Israel, Iran, Pakistan and Nigeria. The research shows North Korea ranked number one on the list with 47 percent of Britons having an unfavourable attitude towards the country. The unfavourable attitude of Britons towards Israel rose by 18 percent since 2012, now at 35 percent.
People's unfavourable feelings towards Iran have dropped from 45 percent to 33 percent since 2012, the report added. According to report Pakistan is seen as unfavourable by 28 percent, dropping four points since 2012. 25 percent respondents rated Nigeria as unfavourable.
For nations within Europe, Russia (56pc) was the most disliked, followed by Ukraine (23pc). Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Argentina were also among the top ten. Meanwhile, the non-European countries ranked the "most favourable" for Britons were Australia (47pc), Canada (44pc), USA (37pc) and Japan (15pc). For nations within Europe, Netherlands is ranked highest, for the fourth time in a row. There is a 9-point increase since 2012 in those saying they have "especially favourable" views towards the Netherlands, from 24 percent to 33 percent. The other places in the top five are taken by northern European countries; Sweden, Norway, Ireland and Germany.
