Zong on Thursday commercially launched 'Super 3G' service for customers in major cities of Pakistan. Zong is the only telecom operator in the country while winning 10 MHz of 3G and 4G each from the auction that held on April 23, 2014 and paid the whole amount, ie $516 million (3G and 4G) to the government.
Addressing the launching ceremony of Zong "Super 3G" Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Syed Ismail Shah said that introduction of new technology, ie 3G, 4G in the country would not only bring investment but create thousands of job opportunities. "Increase in net speed is a small benefit of this technology as it has many other positive things, however, it should be used for positive things", Ismail Shah added.
Dr Fan Yunjun chairman and chief executive Zong said superior customer service is an integral part of the company business and could not be ignored. "Through our infrastructure, our people and processes are aligned to provide a differentiated customer experience as we keep the customer first in all that we do", said Yunjun, adding that "Super 3G" service is just another example of this commitment towards providing the best data solutions to tech-savvy customers.
CEO further said that Super 3G service offers speeds of up to 42 Mbps while normal 3G offers speeds of up to 21 Mbps. Zong 'Super 3G' is twice as fast as normal 3G currently available in Pakistan. The initial launch targets the two major cities of Pakistan, ie Karachi and Lahore where Zong has the vast coverage and would ensure the fastest data speed available. In the second stage, the services would be expanded to other major cities; said Yunjun. He said that customers should look forward to superior 4G services in the months to come.
All existing Zong SIMs are 'Super 3G' enabled so customers will not have to go through any inconvenience to get a new SIM. The tariff for 2G & 3G customers are the same so customers can start using Super 3G and enjoy fast data speeds at the same exciting rates as before. Services will be available simply by changing ones network settings. The unmatched speeds will give customers the freedom of uninterrupted streaming of their favourite movies, videos and more, lightning fast downloads, he added. Zong has the fastest growth in subscriber base in the industry and is now geared to provide the benefits of Super 3G connectivity across Pakistan to make a greater difference in the industry as a leading telecom player, Zong official added.
