PM Imran, Buzdar responsible for sugar scandal, says Shehbaz Sharif

  • PML-N president says revenge politics against his party will yield no results
Published September 23, 2020

(Karachi) Opposition Leader and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has said that Prime minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar are responsible for sugar scandal.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore on Wednesday, he said the nation has become fed up of the "selected government".

He maintained that the revenge politics against PML-N will yield no results. "The Niazi-NAB nexus has broken all records of making fake cases," he stated.

He said, "Imran Niazi" wants to send me to jail. If I did not got to jail, I will keep highlighting their wrongdoings in front of the nation."

PTI Foreign Accounts case

Regarding the PTI's foreign account case, Shehbaz Sharif said that it is an open and shut case. He added if the case is decided on merit, the entire cabinet will have to resign.

He alleged that the case is not being undertaken and decided by the Election Commission and being delayed to save PTI lawmakers.

Imran's allegations are baseless

Referring to four allegations levelled against him by PM Imran Khan, the PML-N president said that all the claims are false.

The PM said that Javed, a friend of mine, is my frontman and I took Rs27 billion from his as a bribe. I even wrote Imran Khan a letter on this and received no reply." He then claimed that Nawaz gave me Rs10 billion in the Panama Papers case. Two years have passed and no progress has been made in the case. It was said that I took a bribe from a Chinese company for the construction of the Multan Metro Bus Project. Lastly, let’s not forget the Daily Mail article. The British government itself said that there was no truth to it. The PM who lies to his nation about such things how can he be considered ‘ameen’ and ‘sadiq’? he asked. Article 62 (i)(f) is a provision requiring elected officials to be ‘sadiq and ameen’ or honest and righteous

Shehbaz said that he provided all the trail and documents to support his claim and till date, the government failed to prove corruption of a single penny against him.

Corruption in BRT Peshawar

Highlighting details of Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit project, Shehbaz accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government of corruption worth billions and quipped that the construction cost of the Peshawar BRT project equalled that of three BRT projects funded during the PML-N tenure.

He said that four buses have burnt in a project worth billions but inquiry into the incident has not been conducted.

He said cost of Peshawar Metro is almost equal to the cost of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Multan BRTs combined. Shahbaz dismissed PTI’s criticism of the PML-N metro projects as groundless and false accusations of corruption.
