KARACHI: Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) Chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal on Sunday warned that due to ethnic, jurisprudential and political fault lines, Pakistan's revenue engine, Karachi could become a security threat, urging the stakeholders to play their active role in building an autonomous, strong and effective local government system.

Kamal was chairing a meeting of his party's Central Executive Committee and National Council at Pakistan House in which a number of issues of the country in general, and Karachi in particular were discussed in detail. Kamal said that due to government's corruption, prejudice and incompetence, Pakistan's economic lifeline, Karachi was sinking in sewage water after the rains.

"The destruction of Karachi is the destruction of Pakistan," he said. The launch of the PFC along with the NFC Award and the constitutional interpretation of the local government system can solve the problems of the people. Karachi needs permanent way out which is nothing but an empowered, autonomous and effective local government system, he said, adding that the whole of Karachi has been submerged in rain water, people's homes have been flooded with sewage water while the relevant authorities are seen nowhere.

PSP supremo asked his party workers to be active in providing relief to the people in their respective areas and help the people trapped in the rains. He said that the oppressor is not the one who oppresses but, "The oppressor is the one who endures the oppression in silence."

The workers should spend time amongst the people and make them realise that they are not alone in these testing times, and get them to break their silence and support the PSP. "Not only does the PSP have viable solutions to Pakistan's problems, including Karachi, but it also has a credible, capable, talented and hardworking leadership that knows how to resolve problems," he concluded.
