The spate of targeted killings in the city continued on Saturday, as 18 more people were killed in different areas of the city on the eve of PS 94 by-poll. Orangi Town and Nazimabad were the worst affected areas. With the flare up in violence, tension griped the entire city and people rushed to their homes. In Orangi, four people were gunned down by unidentified armed persons.
It may be mentioned that by-elections for PS 94 would held in Orangi Town, today. On late Friday night two handcuffed bodies of youth were found near the Inquiry office, Nazimabad No 02. Police shifted the bodies to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for post-mortem examination. Later, they were identified as Salman Baloch and Shaukat Baloch. Both were the residents of Lyari area.
Zaffar Baloch, Spokesman of Lyari Amman Committee claimed both the victims were active members of the committee and were kidnapped a day before they were murdered. In another incident a 40-year-old man, Saleem Badshah, was shot at and injured by the pillion riders. He was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.
In yet another incident, a 30-year-old man, who was identified as Bakht Raheem, was shot dead. The victim was a bus conductor. Police told that the victim was in the bus when four armed men near Northern Bypass, Super Highway opened firing on him. He received a single bullet in his head and died.
Separately, a 22-year old youth was shot dead to death by unidentified armed persons when he was returning to his home in Mangopir. The victim was identified as Dost Muhammad. His body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). Another person injured in the incident later succumbed to his injuries during treatment at JMPC. He was identified as Taufique.
Meanwhile, a body was found from bushes near Mehmoodabad, Korangi No 01. The body was shifted to JPMC for autopsy where the deceased was identified as Irfan son of Azam. On late Saturday night, armed men in Orangi Town, Baldia and Sohrab Goth resorted to firing and killed at least four people. A man namely Siddique was gunned down in Baldia, Zaffar Iqbal son of Ahmed Iqbal was shot dead in Orangi Town, Muhammad Zaffar was gunned down in Abul Hassan Isphahani Road and a youth named Waqas was targeted and killed near Bismillah Bakery, Sohrab Goth. Moreover, Edhi sources told Business Recorder that five more people were killed in Rasheedabad, Baldia. Detail of victims could not be ascertained so far.
