A renowned young Pakistani Laparoscopic surgeon Dr Naeem Taj has made new world record by removing some 5,568 stones from gallbladder of a 85-year old patient Hasina Begum, who was operated at Taj Surgery, Saadi Road, here on Sunday. Dr Zakia Taj, Dr Arshad Ali and Dr Naheed assisted Dr Naeem Taj during the operation.
Giving details, Dr Naeem Taj said that a German lady Usula Kuschfelddt 67, was operated in Neustreling, Eastern Germany in 1981 and some 3,110 stones were removed from her gallbladder. He said it was for the first time in the history that such a large number of stones were removed from gallbladder of a patient, he added. He said it is in fact a new world record in medical history, and added he has sent his name for registration in the Guinness Book of World Record. The patient Hasina Begum was normal, and she will be discharged from the hospital on Monday, he said.
