Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy, Dr Hamida Khuhro has directed the secretary education and provincial education manager (colleges) to prepare a plan for elevation and up-gradation of two federally run institutions, ie Sindh Madressatul Islam (SMI) and Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (DCET) in view of their imminent transfer to the province.
It may be recalled here that Federal Minister for Education Lieutenant-General Javed Ashraf Qazi (Retd) had written a letter to Sindh Education Minister conveying the federal government's consent to the transfer of the two premier colleges to provincial government, stating that the "Ministry of Education agrees in principle to the transfer of SMI and DCET to Sindh Education Department."
Dr Khuhro said that Sindh Madressatul Islam deserves to be elevated to the level of university in view of its tremendous services for the cause of education in the subcontinent.
Dr Khuhro directed that various options for elevation and up-gradation of these two institutions may be examined and report should be sent to her within a few weeks time.
