After a horrendous Test whitewash and loss in the first One Day Internationals (ODI), Pakistan cricket team finally got their first taste of win last night ending their 12-year-long drought at the Melbourne.
It was Pakistan bowling side that despite a number of last minute changes finally got their act together and bowled out Australia for just 220 in 48.1 overs.
The pace trio of Muhammad Amir, Junaid Khan and Hasan Ali were relentless and picked seven wickets. Junaid made into the squad after Wahab was dropped, trapped the Ausssies openers including the dangerous David Warner.
However, it was the visitors spin attack that did the major damage, as Imad Wasim and Shoaib Malik had Australia in a spin. The spinners not only picked up the crucial wickets of Australian captain Steve Smith, Matthew Wade and Glenn Maxwell, they also manage to squeeze the batting lineup on a not so turning MCG track.
Once again, we see another Australian batsman playing all around balls which arent turning, Channel 9 commentator Mark Taylor said, reported news.com.au.
Pakistan former coach and bowling legend, Waqar Younis, agreed with Taylors assessment.
Its not spinning massively and we have seen Australians struggling, Younis said. They are just losing too many wickets too early in the game.
Former Aussies skipper stated, that Australian struggle against Pakistani spin was not subjected to MCG only, We talked about the first game and Pakistan used 25 overs of spin. I think it was 3/106 from those 25 overs.
Australia havent been able to get the spinners away like they do with the quicks, particularly in these latter oversIt seems to me the Australians are more comfortable with that ball coming on, when they have got some pace to work with.
Pakistan will play its third ODI against Australia at Perth on Jan 19.
