Regional surveillance team of Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) imposed fine of Rs 0.75 million on the jail authorities for power theft of 1,54,000 units.
During a joint operation of Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Intelligence and Mepco surveillance team found the meter of District Jail stopped and direct power supply was taken from the main transmission line. Jail staff reportedly threatened them for dire consequences if they cut off the connection or got registered a case against them.
This team also caught another seven consumers in Shah Rukn-i-Alam sub division and a tubewell owner was caught red-handed stealing power and fine of Rs 40,000 was imposed in Makhdoompur sub division. Cantonment surveillance team caught 30 power thieves from Bosan sub division, a constituency of Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture & livestock.
The team headed by Assistant Direct surveillance, Abdullah Palejo and Line Superintendent 1st, Muhammad Afzal. They told that approved load of District Jail was only 39 KW but it was consuming 134 KW.
