Punjab ombudsman provided relief to 76 petitioners of South Punjab area in the month of March, said advisor to the ombudsman Syed Bahadur Shah.
Talking to APP here on Friday, he said 10 districts of South Punjab fall in their jurisdiction - Multan, Lodhran, Khanewal, Vehari, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur and Layyah.
The provincial ombudsman Abdur Rashid Khan has ensured quick disposal of pending cases, which were brought down from 8,000 to only 2000 in just two years, he added.
Shah said his office was providing inexpensive justice to aggrieved people who were often without resources.
A total of 255 applications were received by the office in March, of which 240 petitions were disposed of, 164 were rejected and 76 petitioners were provided relief.
The petitions received were 32 pertaining to Revenue Department, 30 regarding Police Department, Baitul Maal 24, Education 24, Irrigation 17, Health eight, District Accounts Office seven, DCO office six, Local Government six, Zakat three, Transport two, MDA two, Food three, and two each regarding the Forests and Excise departments.
To apply to the ombudsman office, the aggrieved person needs only to submit an application on a plain paper along with a copy of NIC and an affidavit to the effect of his or her grievance.
The defendant department is informed of the grievance, and then both sides are called for personal hearings. If the grievance is found to be genuine and tenable, the department concerned is bound to act upon the findings of the ombudsman, Shah explained.
