Malaysian Company has shown interest to construct Shahdara fly-over project on build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis, which will cost Rs 3.5 billion. The interest was shown by a five-member Malaysian delegation, led by Malaysian High Commissioner in Pakistan Tan Sri Hashim Hussain, who called on Minister of State for Communication Engr M Shahid Jamil Qureshi here on Friday.
The Malaysian delegation's visit to Pakistan is the continuation of the previous visit of Malaysian Prime Minister to Pakistan and his desire to invest in highway projects in Pakistan. The delegation expects that co-operation in the highway sector will be promoted between the two countries bringing them closer.
Speaking on the occasion, State Minister Communication Jamil Qureshi said opportunities of co-operation existed in communications sector between Pakistan and Malaysia.
He said the construction of Shahdara fly-over would greatly facilitate the people of the surrounding areas and problems relating to routine traffic jam at that point would be eliminated.
The range of co-operation in communications would be extended in the years to come between Pakistan and Malaysia, he hoped.
The government of Pakistan, Jamil Qureshi said, was taking practical steps to develop, extend and maintain highways network in the country and there was considerable capacity of investment for development of the road sector.
He said, it was satisfying that Malaysian Company had expressed interest for investment in highway projects of Pakistan that would pave the way for promoting economic ties between the two countries. During the meeting, Secretary Communications Tariq Mahmud, National Highway Authority Chairman Major General Farrukh Javed and senior officials of the Ministry and the NHA were also present.
