imagePakistan’s former captain and legendary left-arm pacer Wasim Akram has urged the cricket authorities to bring Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad back to the ODI squad, after Pakistan’s shocking defeat in the third match against England.

England defeated Pakistan by 169 runs after posting a mammoth 444/3 in 50 overs – the highest ODI total ever.

Talking to Geo News, the Pakistani legend blamed ‘the system’ which he said has failed to produce quality players, calling for return of Akmal and Shehzad who have been facing action for violation of discipline.

“Bring them back, it’s enough. You can drop them again, if they are found responsible for violating discipline,” he said.

The former captain said Pakistan has no experienced batsman after Misbahul Haq and Younis bade farewell to ODI cricket.

"Captain has to score consistently; making runs once in a while won't be enough. Shoaib Malik has also failed to deliver with ball and bat," he said.

Previously, Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shahryar Khan said that Umar Akmal has apologized to the management over his behavior. “Akmal has rendered an apology to the board over his discipline problems and promised us that he will not repeat the mistakes,” Khan said.

Shahryar Khan also said that he has told the management that Umar may be selected in the team. He said that he will now call Ahmed Shehzad also and talk to him.
