Hundreds of employees from Taiwan's state-run Chunghwa Telecom staged an unprecedented strike on Tuesday (May 17), demanding the government halt privatisation plans for the firm, witnesses said. Some 600 employees walked out of their jobs in the morning and rallied outside the company's headquarters in Taipei, protesting the privatisation, which they said jeopardised their benefits.
