Pakistan’s former wicket-keeper/captain Rashid Latif feels that it’s a good chance for youngsters to avail the opportunity and show their potential and skills, but also he added that team selection was not fair and squad is unbalanced.
Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq has announced a 15-man squad which consists of Azhar Ali (capt), Sharjeel Khan, Sami Aslam, Mohammad Hafeez, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Sarfraz Ahmed, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, Umar Gul, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Yasir Shah, and Mohammad Nawaz
Latif said that Asad Shafiq and Sohail Khan should have been included on their Test performances. “Everyone should be treated equally and Asad and Sohail would be disappointed to miss out,” said Latif while talking to local media
The former Pakistan skipper also raises question on Yasir’s inclusion, “Pakistan has a lot of cricket in the next six months and we need to preserve our match winners. There was no need to put extra burden on Yasir because he has already bowled so much”.
He further added the experienced duo of Hafeez and Malik will be required to play the role of Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan since Pakistan has a young squad. The 47-year-old also suggested that a fifth fast-bowler should have been included instead of a third spinner. “The ODI squad isn’t balanced and they will have problems,” he said.
Pakistan will play two ODI matches against Ireland, starting from August 18, before facing their English counterparts from August 24.
