imageThe internet largest social media platform, Facebook has recently launched a device that is all set to change how internet connectivity and cellular connectivity works.

The tech giant has unveiled OpenCellular, which is a device that the company hope will bring improved internet connectivity on all parts of the world, as the social media platform wants more people hooked to the internet and especially Facebook.

“Today we are announcing the OpenCellular access platform, and over time, we will be open-sourcing the design” said Facebook.

Now, what is OpenCellular? CAPTEES reported, the device which looks sort of a shoe box by design is an open-source system, meaning that anyone can manipulate it and is accessible to all. As per local media reports, Mark Zuckerberg has stated that the device is capable of supporting 1,500 people from up to a distance of 10 kilometres.

The company informed that once the device is linked to any electricity source it is capable of performing all kinds of things to get people connected. Facebook added that “the first implementation of our platform will be available this summer. But it will be an ongoing effort developed with community support.”

The OpenCellular device is part of many innovations that Facebook has done to bring internet access to the globe. The tech giant has invested in laser technologies that can carry data at high speeds, as well as introducing special drones, which can hover in the air and beam down internet signals.
