LONDON: England captain Eoin Morgan elected to field after winning the toss in the fourth one-day international against Sri Lanka at The Oval on Wednesday.
With light rain around and dark grey skies, Morgan clearly felt his bowlers could utilise the favourable bowling conditions with further down pours forecast during the afternoon and evening.
Morgan insisted: "There's a bit of weather around and chasing is probably a better option. Hopefully, the rain will not spoil this game as it did in Bristol and we can get a positive result."
Spinner Moeen Ali was recalled to the England side, replacing all-rounder Chris Jordan, as the only change from the team which lined up for the rain-ruined third one-dayer in Bristol.
England, leading 1-0 in the series, were left frustrated on 16-1 in that game, chasing a less than formidable 249 for victory, when rain washed out the rest of play.
However, the hosts can still clinch the series with a victory here in South London while Sri Lanka will hope to stretch the five-match campaign into the final one in Cardiff on Sunday. The tourists chose to stick with the same side from Bristol despite the disappointing batting performance.
