Pakistan's steel industry has been invited to the seventh "International iron and steel conference", to be held in Beirut, Lebanon from September 29 to October 1.
The Arab Iron and Steel Union (AISU), comprising 80 member countries from 15 Arab countries, is organising the conference, which is held every four years.
Earlier, these conferences were held in Alexandria, Cairo; Marrakech and Algiers.
The conference will deal with a number of subjects related to the real situation and prospects of the steel industry Arabwide and worldwide.
Several subjects related to the development and future of the steel industry will be discussed by the Arab and world experts on the theme, "The future of the steel industry with concentration on the prospects of the Arab industry."
New technologies in the steel production, commercial issues related to the steel markets and price developments, raw materials and their impact on the development of the steel industry, scrap, substitute materials, iron ore, etc would come under discussion.
On the sideline of the conference, an exhibition will be held in which a number of Arab and international companies will display samples of their products and experiences with the aim to strengthen communication among producers, users and marketeers of the steel products and technologies of the steel industry and the allied industries.
The commercial issues to come under discussion would relate to dumping, commercial restrictions, shipment, insurance and others.
About the upturn cycle, what have we to wait for after upturn? How will the future of the steel industry be determined, globalisation or regionalisation?
Other topics include steel products - reality and prospects of the steel industry and recovery after recession, Arab steel industry's overall outlook and principal features of the steel industry in certain Arab countries, the industries using steel products - building, engineering industries, pipes industry, cars, world steel markets - the forces influencing the future steel development - China, India, CIS, the Middle East and other countries.
New technologies of the steel production, new developments in the technological field, (blast furnaces, electric arc furnace, direct reduction), steel consumables and associated services such as refractories, electrodes, maintenance, equipment, etc, clean steel for clean environment would also be discussed.
The participants have been invited to submit working papers on any one of these topics for circulation among the participants.
