India's former foreign secretary and high commissioner (ambassador) to Pakistan J.N. Dixit, was Wednesday appointed the country's new national security adviser, an official said.
Dixit, who was vice-chairman of the Congress party's foreign affairs cell is a seasoned bureaucrat and replaces Brajesh Mishra, the powerful confidante of outgoing prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.
Mishra resigned soon after the new Congress-led government of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was sworn in last Saturday.
