Sarhad Petroleum Cartage & Dealers Association on Wednesday warned to stop illegal sale of substandard smuggled petrol in the province otherwise they would have no option other than starting the sale of same petrol at their filling stations.
Addressing a press conference, Mansoor Sharif, provincial chairman of the association, said that due to the open sale of smuggled petrol the sale of the product at the filling station is touching the lowest ebb. "The petroleum sale at big filling stations is even less than 50 litres per day and their business has come to a standstill position," he said.
He said that the owners of filling stations have to pass through a number of hardships in getting no objection certificates from different offices in the provincial metropolis.
Mansoor said that the filling stations pay millions of rupees as taxes to the government but the illegal sellers of petrol are carrying their business without paying a single penny to the national exchequer.
"The illegal petrol I being sold in Peshawar, Swat, Mardan, Kohat and other cities. It is smuggled into Pakistan from Iran, Iraq and Central Asia through Afghanistan and is available everywhere in the province," Mansoor said.
When asked why people are taking much interest in buying smuggled petrol, he said that it was because of unprecedented increase in prices of the petroleum products.
