imageRefrigeration has become a modern necessity, meaning every home has a fridge. The problem is like all other electronic devices, fridges which needs to be operational 24 hours a day, are a major source of electricity consumption and packed with its gases poses environment hazard, as well.

However, the good news is that the days of these electricity eating appliance are numbered, all thanks to the ‘Magnetic Fridge,’ launched by Cooltech Applications it is the first magnetic refrigeration system (MRS), and as the name suggest uses the power of magnets to cool things down, rather than standard chemical gases.

This may sound all futuristic but the idea of magnetic fridges is quite old, reported Gizmag. However, the problem was, previously it was not considered feasible for household and commercial markets until Cooltech launch.

What are the advantages? The lack of a gas compression system states that the latest MRS consumes just half the energy of a standard fridge, and produces less noise, vibration, and even requires less maintenance, says Cooltech. Last but not the least it is also good for the environment

Now how does it work? As per reports, the MRS is based on the ‘magnetocaloric effect,’ which states that the temperature of a material can be changed by exposing it to a magnetic field. Now when these magnetocaloric materials present in the system are put through a cycle of magnetization and demagnetization, a water coolant is pumped through them, transferring the heat from the interior of the fridge to the outside air, similar to the your conventional fridge but without the harmful gases.
