The government must adopt indigenous and local technology to counter surging petrol prices in the international market.
The Founders' leaders, who are acting as opposition group in the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), proposed this in their budget proposals here on Saturday.
They urged the government to take immediate notice of mushroom growth of distilleries all over the country. Moreover, it should also introduce gasohol technology for local production of motor spirit from the sugar molasses, which would help arrest increasing import bill of crude oil as well as compensate the local sugar industry, they added.
According to them, India has passed a legislation in 2003 in a bid to declare it mandatory for its oil refineries to blend motor spirit produced through gasohol technology with petrol.
The Pakistani refineries should also be asked to adopt the technology, as this form of fuel was much cheaper than petrol.
