Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has been surrounded by a recent controversy as he was appointed as the India’s Goodwill Ambassador for Rio Olympics 2016. Ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Katrina Kaif along with the other Bollywood celebrities came in support of the actor.
At an event, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan openly supported Salman Khan as a Goodwill Ambassador for Olympics 2016. She said, “Anybody who is doing good to represent the country and anybody who is working or seeking or standing out for whatever vocation we have in the country be it sports, arts or music, I think that's wonderful and needs to be recognized,” Indian media reported.
Katrina Kaif left everyone amazed by her spontaneous response as she laughed off the entire issue by saying “What’s new about Salman courting controversy?”.
Veteran Bollywood actress Hema Malini also extended support to Khan on Monday in an interview to Deccan Chronicle and said, “That (2002 Hit and run case) was one percent of his life. For that you can’t lessen his popularity. If he is working for a good cause, then why not appreciate him for it?”
Veteran actress Kirron Kher also said, “I think when we choose someone like Salman Khan, it brings a lot of corporates in. We have a lot of games that are not cricket, and are in need of a lot of money to support the teams and coaches. The government does whatever it can do. I think, if he (Salman Khan) brings it all in with him, I think it is wonderful for all the sportsmen involved”.
“So, with deep amount of respect I would like to urge my peers and my juniors and seniors in the sports world to give some respect to someone like Salman Khan. He has been there for a long time and he has lasted a long time, there must be something in the gentleman that inspires all of us,” she added.
Indian sports and film fraternity has been divided into two with a recent controversy surrounding the ‘Sultan’ actor. While the Indian sportsmen believe that Salman Khan is not eligible to represent the country in event like Olympics, Indian film and TV fraternity think otherwise.
