imageISLAMABAD: The Senate was informed on Wednesday that the present government had repaid foreign debt of US$ 10,730.2 million including repayment of US$ 4,415.0 million to IMF during June, 2013 to January, 2016.

Federal Minister for Finance, Ishaq Dar in a written reply to a question said that total foreign and domestic debt stock was Rs. 18,694.2 billion by end January, 2016.

He said this includes foreign debt Rs. 5,573.6 billion (US$ 53,122.0 million) and domestic debt 13,120.6 billion.

The minister said that the government was running fiscal deficit, therefore, instead of repaying domestic debt, it has refinanced domestic debt from the domestic market.

He said that debt servicing (Principal repayment and Interest payment) of foreign loans was being managed on due dates against appropriate budget provisions as per amortization schedules.
