imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Tuesday directed the concerned authorities to strictly observe merit system for the selection of poor students for National Talent Hunt Programme (NTHP).

The minister said this on the occasion of signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) ceremony between Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi and Sukkur.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal Khan, Chairman OGDCL, officials of IBA Karachi, Sukkur and other senior members of the OGDCL board.

Shahid Khaqan requested the OGDCL board to further extend this programme so that more needy students across the country could be benefitted.

The minister said that it was the policy of the present government to develop areas adjacent to oil and gas producing fields on priority.

He urged stakeholders to put efforts to make successful programme and also assured full support of the government in this regard.

OGDCL in collaboration with IBA Karachi and Sukkur IBA has launched a fully funded OGDCL National Talent Hunt Programme.

Initially 300 students in IBA Sukkur and 100 Students in IBA Karachi will be selected for the initial semester and orientation program.

OGDCL will contribute Rs 111.228 million to IBA Karachi and Rs 77.72 million to IBA Sukkur spread over a period of five years and four years respectively.

The ceremony attended by the Board and the Senior Management of OGDCL along with the Senior Management of IBA Karachi and Sukkur IBA.

The main objective of the programme was to provide an opportunity to needy and under privileged students of the rural areas of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

The programme will help students in attaining quality professional education and improving their employment prospects.

Talented students will be selected from various districts of the country. Special consideration will be given to those districts where OGDCL has operational activities.
