imageISLAMABAD: Pakistan bowling Coach Mushtaq Ahmed said the players should make Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq as their role-model as his fitness is commendable and an example to follow.

Mushtaq said Misbah is 40 plus now and still his fitness is admirable, therefore the current players should see him as an example to follow. "The thing is that we have skillful players but not all of them are fully fit. Players should have the aim of keeping themselves fit from grassroot cricket," Pakpassion.net quoted him as saying.

Mushtaq said the coaching staff always tries it's best to explain things to the players. "The coaching staff is trying it's best to take responsibility but cricketers have to work on the basics in domestic cricket," he said.

Mushtaq said if a player doesn't know how to hold a bat or look at his partner while running then that's a very basic thing and should be worked on in domestic cricket and not in international cricket.

He said the most important thing is that the protocol of modern cricket has changed, therefore cricketers have to improve their fitness as it tends to improve their fielding. "As coaches, we have to raise our standards and help cricketers improve their games," he said.

Mushtaq said if a player cannot hit a boundary after playing two or three dots, then that is a problem.
