imageISLAMABAD: Federal Minister Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday directed concerned department to update management plan in light of recent flood to ensure preparedness.

He was chairing a meeting to assess flood situation in the country which was attended by officials of federal and provincial governments.

He said concerted efforts are needed to deal with shifting patterns of weather due to climate change resulting in flood in vast areas of the country in recent years.

The minister said recommendations should take stock of fiscal position and make doable recommendations as he pointed out that scientific means of flood management should be employed through a proactive approach.

The Minister said lack of coordination and integration between various government departments often causes delay in response. Through greater coordination among stakeholders we can minimize damages.

He said Federal Government is helping provincial governments to meet flood challenges.

Meeting was informed that KPK government is being provided with two helicopters to speedup relief efforts in Chital.

Representatives of Provincial governments gave briefing on flood situation in their respective provinces.

Meanwhile chairing a meeting on CPEC, Ahsan Iqbal said that CPEC transformed the scenario from a geopolitical one to geoeconomic.

He said we all have to make efforts of synergetic mood to defeat the challenges coming in the way of CPEC as peace and stability are pre requisite for development and success of CPEC.

He said anti Pakistan forces may throw spanners to spoil the project which would prove to be a fate changer for whole region.

The minister said CPEC gave birth to a positive image of country, which is being acknowledged internationally that now Pakistan is a "safe heaven for investment".
