imageISLAMABAD: The opposition parties Monday staged walkout from the Lower House of the Parliament to protest the loadshedding during currrent heat wave across the country.

The opposition parties including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamat-e-Islami (JI), Awami National

Party (ANP), Awami Muslim League, protested power outages and demanded urgent measures to redress the issue.

Speaking on a Point of Order, Ms Shazia Marri demanded immediate meeting of Council of Common Interest (CCI) for making a joint strategy to get rid of the menace of loadshedding

She criticised the failure in providing the people solace in heat during Holy Month of Ramzan-ul-Mubarak.

Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf said from 132 to 150 people have reportedly been killed due to heatwave. From June 16 - there is no electricity in Chachro (Tharparkar), he added.

He said the rural areas of Punjab are also enduring power outages.

He said the federal Government owes from Rs 130 billion to Rs 135 billion to the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said the province is unable to initiate construction of many run-of-river projects for generating electricity.

Abdul Waseem of Mutahidda Quomi Movement (MQM) said the people of Karachi are enduring long hours loadshedding. So far 106 people have lost their lives in the port city due to current wave of heat, he added.

He also demanded the payment of Rs 300 billion circular debt.

Sahibzada Tariqullah of Jamat-e-Islami said his constituency Malakand Division is also enduring long hours loadshedding. He demanded the debate in Parliament on the issue of loadshedding.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed of Awami Muslim League called for constitution of a high powered Electricity Council with the representation of opposition to devise a strategy for resolving issue of loadshedding.

He demanded of shifting of the allocated amounts of development projects to power generation projects as there is no utility of any mega project in the absence of electricity.

Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao of Quomi Watan Party lamented that his constituency is enduring long hour loadshedding and there is no water for even ablution in mosques of Shabqadar and Charsada areas.

He demanded improvements in transmission lines for minimizing and saving 200 MW power losses. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is being supplied only 700 mw power instead of agreed 1500 mw, he added.

Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour of Awami National Party (ANP) said Peshawar is worst hit by power outages. As per 18th amendment - the power producing province should be provided electricity on priority, he added.
