imageLAHORE: Pak-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) here Wednesday proposed a Pak-China Technology University to be opened in collaboration with Chinese universities.

PCJCCI President Shah Faisal Afridi said that aim of the university would be to transform appropriate technology from China that suits to the needs and demands of Pakistan, besides providing tailor made innovative solutions to various sectors.

"China is interested to incorporate Chinese curriculum into Pakistan such as Chinese language, work ethics, innovative planning and development on priority basis for whcih they need Pakistan's cooperation," he added.

He mentioned that Chinese also discussed prospects of such collaboration with Higher Education Commission's Chairman Prof. Dr Nizamudin, who appreciated the idea and proposed to provide land formation of Pak-China Technology University.

Afridi said, it would be a great achievement if Pakistan succeeds to establish the technology university, as currently, Pakistan's education sector lacks technology and technical expertise whereas Pak youth was highly motivated, talented and creative, and need guidance/direction. He cited, there were various innovative projects, strategies and products made by students in varsities but these innovative ideas go unobserved due to lack of representation and interest at public sector level.

The PCJCCI President said, "We need radical transformation that brings search for knowledge, science, technology and innovation to the forefront of government support."

The proposed Pak-China Technology University, he said, would include a collaborative research and development wing to be linked with other universities and colleges for achievement of innovative goals by providing training, technical and financial assistance to the students and interested people to execute the ideas.

"Research for the sake of publication should be replaced with Research for Application, every such institution should be directed by the industry to produce commercially feasible research," he added.
