CIUDAD JUAREZ: Gunmen stormed a house party in Mexico's Ciudad Juarez early Sunday, killing five people and wounding six, local police said.
"They came to the party and four men with guns started shooting people who were outside the house," said a local police chief who requested anonymity.
There were about 30 people at the party, including women and children, the chief said.
Four people were killed in the street and one person was killed inside the home that was hosting a birthday party. The attackers also set fire to four cars outside the house.
An ambulance, cars and a passing public bus took the wounded to the hospital.
Between 2008 and 2012 horrific scenes of violence were a regular occurrence in Ciudad Juarez during a bloody war between the Sinaloa and Juarez cartels.
Violence in the city remains high but has dropped considerably.
In January, President Enrique Pena Nieto visited Ciudad Juarez that borders the US city of El Paso.
