imageISLAMABAD: The production of jeeps and cars increased by 14.9 percent during the first four months of the current fiscal year compared to the output of the corresponding period of last year.

As many as 42,296 jeeps and cars were manufactured during July-October (2014-15), compared to the production of 37,073 in July-October (2013-14), according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

On year-on-year basis, the production of jeeps and cars increased by 22 percent in October and reached to 11,272 units compared to the output of 9,244 vehicles during the corresponding months of the last year.

The production of motorcycles witnessed an increase of 1.35 percent during the first four months of the current fiscal year and reached to 568,261 units compared to the production of 560,669 units during the last year.

On year-on-year basis, the motorcycle production increased from 140,004 units in October 2013 to the output of 144,541 units in October 2014, showing an increase of 3.24 percent.

The production of tractors and trucks also increased by 60.60 percent and 97.50 percent respectively from July to October compared to last year.

The production of tractors increased from 9,724 units last year to 15,617 units this year whereas the production of trucks went up from 641 units to 1,266 units.

On year-on-year basis, the production of trucks and tractors increased by 30.16 percent and 12.69 percent respectively, as the output of trucks increased from 189 units in October 2013 to 246 units in October 2014 whereas the production of tractors increased from 15,617 in last October to 3,721 units during October 2014.

However, the production of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) witnessed negative growth in production during the first four months of the current fiscal year and reduced by 6.96 percent.

As many as 5,845 LCVs were manufactured from July to October this year compared to the production of 6,282 units during the same period of last year.

Similarly, on year-on-year basis, the production of LCVs decreased by 27.89 percent by going down from the output of 2,047 units in October 2013 to the output of 1,476 units in October 2014, the PBS data revealed.

The production of buses also decrease by 30.20 percent during the first four months of the current fiscal year by falling from the production of 245 units to 171 units where as on year-on-year basis, the production decreased from 70 units in October 2013 to 26 units, in October 2014, showing negative growth of 62.86 percent.

It is pertinent to mention here that the overall Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) witnessed growth of 1.95 percent during July-October compared to the growth of the same period of last year.

On year-on-year basis, the production increased by 1.82 percent in October 2014 compared to October 2013 whereas on month-on-month basis, the LSM production decreased by 1.57 percent when compared to the output of September 2014.
