imageKARACHI: Former Test skipper Zaheer Abbas Thursday showered praise on ace batsman Younis Khan for his extra-ordinary achievements and record-breaking performance against Australia.

"Younis' batting is par-excellence and I and the whole nation are proud of his record-breaking feats," he told APP in an interview as Younis registered his third successive ton in the second Test against Australia in Abu Dhabi.

By scoring his 27th century, Younis Khan became Pakistan's highest century maker surpassing Inzamam-ul-Haq's record of 25 tons, Muhammad Yousuf (24) and Javed Miandad (23).

While Inzamam scored 25 centuries in 120 Test matches, Younis accomplished the feat in mere 92 Tests.

Younis Khan is the fourth batsmen after Zaheer Abbas, Muhammad Yousuf and Mudassar Nazar to have conjured three centuries in successive innings.

"The most heartening things about performances that he carried the team forward without caring about his personal feat," Zaheer Abbas, who was titled Asian Bradman for his batting feats.

"Younis's performance is touching the skies now and I am absolutely delighted with his batting feats," former batting great, commented.

"He (Younis) had proved himself as Pakistan's batting great in cricket annals," he said.

He said Younis consistency with the bat and three centuries in row gave Pakistan vital opportunity to win the first series against Australia in 20 years.

Zaheer Abbas to see that Younis was never satisfied with scores of 30, 40s but looked after the interest of team above all.

He said he was personally impressed with his patriotic and selfless approach to the game.

"This type of approach brings the best out of any player. It was also befitting reply by Younis to his critics," Zaheer concluded.
