imageKINGSTOWN: Prospects of play late on the second day of the first Test between the West Indies and Bangladesh improved with rain stopping and playing conditions improving slowly on Saturday at the Arnos Vale Stadium in St Vincent.

Umpires Marais Erasmus and Richard Illingworth have scheduled a second inspection of the field at 12.40pm local time (1640 GMT) following their first examination of the pitch after the covers were removed an hour earlier.

West Indies closed the first day at 264 for three with opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite on 123 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul on one.

Torrential overnight and continuous morning rain had threatened to wash out the entire second day.

With puddles of water visible on the outfield and no sign of a break in the showers, the umpires initialled ruled that there would be no play before lunch.
