imageWalt Disney Company unveiled a new ‘Star Wars’ game ‘Star Wars Commander’, a mobile app that lets player’s direct battles with franchise heroes Han Solo, Chewbacca and Princess Leia.

Walt Disney Company is ramping up its first major push to promote the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ series, blitzing consumers this year with a mobile game, animated TV show and an expanded line of toys and clothes.

The game is free to download, but Disney charges for special features to speed up a player's progress through various parts. It will only be available for Apple mobile devices at first, and Disney declined to say when it plans to release the title for competing products.

According to media reports, “The game will be promoted on Disney’s StarWars.com website, which is drawing steady traffic from fans more than a year before the next film, Episode VII, hits theaters, said Jimmy Pitaro, president of Disney’s interactive unit”.

Source close to movie revealed that “We wanted an authentic Star Wars experience, adding the company plans to introduce a new character and various new locations for the game”.

On September 29, the company will release computer animated movie ‘Star Wars Rebels, Spark of Rebellion’ online. The film debuts on Disney Channels around the world on Oct 3, followed by a series based on the movie on the Disney XD channel starting Oct. 13.

To keep Star Wars Commander fresh, Disney plans to add more storylines and other items through downloadable updates. Players will also be able to fight against one another, much like they can in ‘Clash of Clans’. But even if they only play the primary storyline, Disney says a dedicated gamer will take about two months to get through the entire game, media reported.
